Which Figma seat type do I need to run Figma backups?

Figma Backup requires a Figma Dev or Full seat. View-only and Collab seats are not supported.

Written by Kevin Goedecke

Figma Backup needs access to Figma API endpoints that are not suitable for View-only or Collab seats.

Before connecting Figma to Magicul, make sure the Figma account you authorize has at least a Dev seat on the Professional plan. A Full seat also works.

Supported seats

  • Professional Dev seat or higher

  • Professional Full seat or higher

  • Organization or Enterprise Dev/Full seats

Unsupported seats

  • View-only seats

  • Collab seats

  • Starter/free access where the required API access is unavailable

How to check your current Figma seat

  1. Open Figma and go to the team or organization that owns the files you want to back up.

  2. Open the team or organization members/settings area.

  3. Find your user in the members list and check the seat shown next to your name.

  4. If the seat says View-only, Viewer, or Collab, ask your Figma admin to change it to Dev or Full.

  5. After the seat is upgraded, reconnect your Figma account in Magicul Figma Backup so the new permissions are used.

Where to check your Figma plan or upgrade

  1. Choose the team or organization that owns the files you want to back up.

  2. Check both your plan and your seat type. Backups need a paid Figma plan with a Dev or Full seat.

  3. If you see View-only, Viewer, Collab, or Starter/free access, ask your Figma admin to upgrade your seat to Dev or Full.

If you connect a View-only or Collab account, backups may fail or run into very restrictive Figma API rate limits.

You can compare current Figma seat options on Figma's pricing page and read more about Figma API rate limits.
