How are Prototyping interactions converted?

Find out about how prototyping interactions are converted between Sketch, XD and Figma

Written by Kevin Goedecke

Exploring how users may interact with your websites’ new flow has become just as important as implementing visual design principles or solving UX problems. Big design files can contain a lot of prototyping interactions that are time consuming to re-create. We understand this and have added support for prototyping in our converter to save you even more time.

Prototyping interactions works significantly different in Adobe XD, Sketch and Figma. Our converter aims to maximize compatibility, but each design tool has slightly different prototyping transitions or properties.

We currently convert prototyping for:

  • XD to Sketch

  • Figma to Sketch

  • Figma to XD

  • Sketch to XD

We are still working on a big release for the XD to Figma and Sketch to Figma prototyping support.

Why we don’t convert prototyping for XD to Figma and Sketch to Figma?

  • We currently run our conversion to Figma through the Figma API. It is limited in several ways. We are however working on a solution that bypasses the constraints that have held us back for so long.

  • We have to accommodate for a lot of differences when it comes to transition options. For example:

In XD the trigger options are quite limited

In Figma, there are a lot more options:

There are a few other nuances that need to be accounted for because of how significantly different both tools work.

We expect to have prototyping support for all of our converters including XD to Figma and Sketch to Figma as soon as possible. Stay tuned for updates!
